Description

The monument comprises the remains of a stone circle of Neolithic or Bronze Age date represented by a standing stone and a number of fallen slabs. The monument lies on the summit of a small hill at around 350m OD.

The standing stone is some 1.5m high and stands on the SSW part of the circle. Five other stones appear to have formed part of the original circle of which four are fallen but apparently close to their original positions while the fifth lies off to E. The monument represents a ritual site of Neolithic or Bronze Age date.

The area to be scheduled encompasses the visible features and an area around them in which traces of associated activity may be expected to survive. It is circular with a diameter of 40m as marked in red on the accompanying map.

Statement of Scheduling

The monument is of national importance because of its potential to add to our understanding of Neolithic and Bronze Age ritual activity. The area around the stone may be expected to contain buried deposits relating to all phases of the site's use.
