Description

The monument comprises the remains of a well-preserved medieval moated homestead. It comprises a rectangular moated site, c.40m NE-SW x 30m internally. It is defined on N, W, S sides by a moat, with a natural scarp on the 4th side. The mound has been reduced by ploughing, and is clearly overlain by ridge and furrow, but it is still in reasonable condition. An artificial scarp to the north may be associated with the site, as a possible bridge abutment.

The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of medieval settlement. The monument is well preserved and is an important relic of the medieval landscape. It retains significant archaeological potential, with a strong probability of the presence of intact archaeological deposits and structural evidence.

The scheduled area comprises the remains described and areas around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive.
