Description

The monument is a homestead of the Iron Age overlain by a pre- improvement settlement.

The homestead, about 2000 years old, is enclosed by a circular wall 3m thick with an overall diameter of about 25m. Part of it has been occupied by three rectangular structures of varying dimensions belonging to the pre-improvement settlement. Beyond the homestead, to the NW are three or four further rectangular buildings. To the NE a rectangular building, approached from the N by a terraced trackway, abuts the homestead wall. A small rectangular structure lies between the trackway and the homestead.

The area to be scheduled includes the homestead and settlement and an area around them within which traces of activity associated with their use will survive. The area is irregular, measures 80m WNW-ESE by 55m, and is bounded to the NE by the forestry track, as marked in red on the accompanying map.
