The monument is a ring cairn, a burial structure of the Bronze Age, some 3500 years old. It comprises a circular area of stones about 16m in diameter with an ill-defined central clear area c. 7m across. The area to be scheduled measures 45m in diameter, centred on the cairn, to include the cairn and an area around it in which traces of activity associated with its construction and use will survive, as marked in red on the attached map.

The monument is of national importance as a well preserved example of a type of monument rarely found on Deeside. It has the potential to considerably enhance our understanding of prehistoric burial and ceremonial practices. It is of particular importance because of the proximity of the well preserved Kinnord settlements and field systems; examination of the relationship between the two monuments could increase our knowledge of the development and use of the prehistoric landscape.
